Communicating NAHREP's beliefs as an organization is as important as informing our members about what we stand against. In this week's War Room, we tackle two issues which impact our ability to deliver on our mission statement. At last year's Policy Conference, one of our calls-to-action related to the lack of inventory in the marketplace caused by the financial services industry's failure to manage distressed properties in the best interests of the community. These issues persist today, with companies like Ocwen purchasing large numbers of distressed loans, circumventing the Realtor® community, and liquidating assets in a way that continues to impact inventory levels and adversely affects community revitalization. We also discuss HUD's dual agency prohibition rules preventing a single agent representing both buyer and seller in a single short sale transaction. Arguments can be made that dual agency prohibition mitigates instances of fraud in short sales, but there are a number of negative effects.
