The Hispanic Wealth Project Symposium took place May 23, 2017 bringing together stakeholders from across the housing industry to discuss solutions and share commitments to achieve the project’s overall goal of tripling median Hispanic household wealth by 2024. In its second annual iteration, the symposium featured Raul Fernandez, Vice Chairman and Owner of Monumental Sports & Entertainment. Fernandez, Co-Owner of the NBA Washington Wizards, provided invaluable advice regarding entrepreneurship & philanthropy in the Hispanic community.

Sol Trujillo, Global Telecommunications, Media, and Cable Industry Executive encouraged members to rethink the public narrative that currently shapes sustainable Hispanic wealth, and provided insight on how to facilitate attitudinal changes in the public discourse that will inherently reshape the structural foundation on which notions of Hispanic wealth are based.

The symposium also included insight from Mark Madrid, Executive Director, Latino Business Action Network (LBAN). Madrid, who heads the research foundation at Stanford University that focuses on Hispanic business entrepreneurship, shared details of Stanford’s Latino Entrepreneurship Initiative, its mentorship program for successful Hispanic owned firms, and the partnership with NAHREP’s HWP to increase the number of firms completing its program.

The HWP is an annual event and will take place again in mid-2018. Additional details regarding this and other future HWP events can be found at www.nahrep.org/events.
