NAHREP’s Commitment to Mexico & Puerto Rico
NAHREP is committed to furthering the crisis relief efforts for our brothers and sisters who were affected in the recent natural disasters in Mexico and Puerto Rico. In times of tragedy we must unite and remember the humanity that connects us all. Below is an overview of our pledge and the ways you can get involved.
- Relief Effort Fundraising: NAHREP is committed to raising $100,000 with an initial $25,000 generated by direct personal donations from the board of directors and senior management. NAHREP will not handle any donated funds and has chosen to direct fundraising to relief efforts being coordinated by the American Red Cross and UNICEF. These charities were selected because of their credibility, and their ability to monitor the situation and determine the most appropriate actions and needs at any given time. Members can donate directly through a CrowdRise campaign:
- Strategic Committee Input: NAHREP has additionally organized two special committees which will remain intact through 2018. They will be responsible for ongoing assessment of the need for support in both Puerto Rico and Mexico.
- Travel Delegations: When it's safe and appropriate to do so, NAHREP will send delegations to Puerto Rico and Mexico to identify other sources of need and make an assessment about how else NAHREP and its members may be of support. Delegates will fund their own participation in any trip to either Puerto Rico or Mexico. Any NAHREP members who wish to participate in either trip can register their interest online by clicking here.
- Member Activity: Members have responded with overwhelming desire and effort to take action to improve conditions in Puerto Rico and Mexico. NAHREP will manage a repository which shares individual member efforts to make a difference and improve conditions in Puerto Rico and Mexico. Any individual member wishing to share his or her unique efforts can do so by completing the web form located online at www.nahrep.org/relief/member-efforts Member efforts will be publicly posted so that anyone wishing to collaborate with member efforts will know how to reach out to the appropriate individual.
This was intended as a dynamic effort so that, over the course of the coming months, NAHREP and its members can amend or refocus initiatives where needed. Although the devastation caused in both Puerto Rico and Mexico occurred over a matter of moments, rebuilding in both places will be months long, and likely years long efforts and we intend to be actively involved in the recovery process for the long run. Thank you in advance for your engagement and contributions.
