NAHREP Stands with El Paso After Saturday’s Mass Shooting

The members and staff of the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals® (NAHREP®) are devastated by the mass shooting that took place in the predominantly Hispanic community of El Paso, Texas on Saturday, August 3, 2019. NAHREP holds the victims of the El Paso shooting and their families, community residents, and our NAHREP El Paso members in our hearts during this difficult time.

El Paso is one of the safest communities in the country and has been for years. The county is home to over 800,000 people, 83 percent of whom are Hispanic or Latino. It is also the community where my wife Yara and I started our lives together and raised our daughters.

Saturday’s heinous act of violence was a carefully calculated and purposeful hate crime that shamefully targeted the Hispanic and immigrant community.

As an organization that is passionate about the health and well-being of Hispanic-Americans, we call on our political leaders and the press to immediately cease the false and negative rhetoric about Hispanics and immigrants that has inspired some to commit murderous atrocities. We urge our lawmakers to take swift and decisive action in order to substantially reduce the likelihood that crimes similar to what occurred this week in El Paso, TX, Gilroy, CA and Dayton, OH will happen again in the future.

Sincerely,

David Acosta
2019 President
