National Advocacy Committee Blog: Are You Registered? #NAHREPVotes

Celebrating NAHREP familia, cultura, politics, and grassroots action

Que onda mi gente?!

Welcome to 2020, a new year and a new decade. It’s the year of Sara Rodriguez’s presidency and in her own words, “the year to do some universe changing stuff.”

For those of you who just joined the National Advocacy Committee: Bienvenidos!

We started this group last November for NAHREP members interested in being the voice of Hispanic homeownership. If we are organized, step up our advocacy game and make our voices heard, we can and we will make NAHREP one of the most influential voices in America.

For more information, check out my earlier blog posts.

As you do some yearly planning and set your goals for the year, I want you to think about the following data point:

By 2020, 32 million Hispanics will be eligible to vote and for the first time, and Hispanics will be the largest racial or ethnic group to be eligible to vote in the 2020 election. However, this isn’t all good news. There are an estimated 15–18 million Latino people in the U.S. who are not registered to vote.

I guarantee you there are at least 10 Latinos you know who aren’t registered to vote. Population numbers in the U.S. do not translate into power unless we vote. And, we can’t vote if we’re not registered.

So what commitment will you make to your own family, your NAHREP familia and your broader Latino community? How many people will you take it upon yourself to make sure they’re registered to vote? Who in your family isn’t registered? Are you encouraging your clients to register to vote once they’ve closed on their home?

I challenge you to pick 10 people to register to vote and share it on social media with the hashtags #NAHREPVOTES & #REGISTEREDMY10. The first three people to complete the challenge will get a special surprise! Stay tuned…

The first primary elections are just around the corner. Stay informed, spread the message. Because #NAHREPVOTES.

Primary Elections Coming up in February:

February 3rd:    Iowa
February 11th:    New Hampshire
We’re looking at you, @NAHREPCentralMass!
February 22nd:    Nevada
We see you @NAHREPLasVegas & @NAHREPGreaterLasVegas!
February 29th:    South Carolina

Let’s do this familia. Let’s show them what we’re made of. If every NAHREP member were to hold themselves responsible for ensuring 10 new Latinos are registered AND vote – that’s about 300,000 new voters-then we’re in the change making territory. Although, I think we can double that. Who’s with me?
