National Advocacy Committee Blog: No Politics, Just Food

Celebrating NAHREP familia, cultura, politics, and grassroots action

Que onda mi gente?!

I just wanted to drop a quick note to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving.

No politics, no policy, no housing this week. Just familia, turkey, pozole, arroz con candules, pastelón, and lechon (and some major veggie action for all my fellow tofu lovers).

I’m headed off to Chino, CA this evening to cook up a storm for our gathering of around 30 family members tomorrow. I don’t even know what Thanksgiving feels like when everyone fits around one table. Do you?

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. More than anything because there’s nothing like the energy shift I feel when I approach life through a space of gratitude. It transforms how I start my day or how I approach a difficult situation.

I’m thankful that for all of the NAHREP familia who has taken me in as one of their own. I’m thankful for Gary Acosta and the National Board of Directors for bringing me on to NAHREP and entrusting me with the enormous responsibility of ensuring that NAHREP is woke, active and organized when it comes to policy. I’m thankful for all of you for joining the National Advocacy Committee. And finally, I’m thankful for the chispa, the energy, passion and commitment that is found only at NAHREP. Because THAT is our secret sauce.

I leave you with the last time I made a turkey (2011). Post whatever edible art you all made this Thanksgiving with #NAHREPCocina.
