NAHREP met with Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) staff on June 25, 2019 to discuss the expiration of the Qualified Mortgage Patch or “QM Patch.” In a letter directed to CFPB Director Kathy Kraninger, NAHREP highlights how the expiration of the QM Patch would be particularly detrimental to Latinos homebuyers. The letter also highlights the need to address the unique characteristics of the changing face of America’s homeowner. Latinos tend to be self-employed, live in multi-generational households and are more likely to work non-traditional, non-W2 jobs. NAHREP urges the CFPB to engage in rule writing that would better measure a consumers capacity to repay rather than an over reliance on Debt to Income ratios.
