The Hispanic Wealth Project teamed up with the Urban Institute for a Summit on Hispanic Wealth December 5. Hispanic consumers’ needs are not being met by today’s housing industry. As Latinos will make up more than half of all net new households formed between now and 2030, this has to change. The event brought together industry experts to discuss potential solutions and promote wealth building, approachable and accessible banking practices, and homeownership.
The first panel discussed achieving sustainable Hispanic homeownership and featured Marisa Calderon, Daniel Gardner of Freddie Mac, Raghu Kakumanu of Wells Fargo, and Jonathan Lawless of Fannie Mae, with moderator Laurie Goodman of the Urban Institute.
The second panel’s discussion on expanding Hispanic wealth through savings and investment provided lots of important data points and insights into how Latinos can close the financial gap. Moderated by Noerena Limón, the panel featured Lisa Dettling of Federal Reserve, Gary Mottola of FINRA, Stephanie Roman of UnidosUS, and Abigail Zapote of Latinos for a Secure Retirement.
The third and final panel reviewed developing, growing, and advancing Hispanic entrepreneurship, moderated by Armando Falcon of Falcon Capital Advisors and featuring Abigail Golden-Vasquez of The Aspen Institute, Liz Lopez of Nexus Consulting LLC, and Leo Pareja of Remine.
