NAHREP Statement on Selection of California Secretary of State Alex Padilla as First Latino Senator of California

The National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals (NAHREP) congratulates Governor Newsom for his selection of Alex Padilla as California’s next Senator. With this appointment, Padilla becomes the first Latino to represent California in the U.S. Senate, replacing Vice-President elect Kamala Harris.

As the son of Mexican immigrants, and a native son of California’s San Fernando Valley, Padilla went on to graduate from MIT with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and at 28, became the youngest person and first Latino to serve as president of the Los Angeles City Council.

“We could not be more excited or proud of Governor Newsom’s appointment to fill the historic seat vacated by Vice President-elect Kamala Harris. NAHREP, with headquarters in California, is excited to work with Alex Padilla on multiple current issues, such as Comprehensive Immigration Reform and solving our nation’s housing shortage. This is the right choice for our time and the right choice for California,” said NAHREP Co-Founder & CEO Gary Acosta.
