NAHREP Statement on Passage of Government Stimulus Package

The National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals (NAHREP) commends Congress for reaching an agreement on a much-needed additional round of economic stimulus. NAHREP is pleased that some of the most critical elements NAHREP has advocated for throughout the year have made it into the final package.

At a time when 17 million households are at the brink of losing their homes at year end, many of those homeowners being people of color, Congress secured a $2.3 trillion stimulus package. NAHREP particularly commends the additional support for small businesses, the qualification of 501(c)6 organizations for the PPP program, as well as rental assistance and support to small landlords. We are also encouraged by the decision to include mixed-status households in the latest round of direct economic payments of $600 – or $2000 pending passage of additional legislation in the Senate – per individual.

“Latinos have been disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the problems continue to be exacerbated during this most recent spike in infections. Getting Latinos back on their feet, particularly small business owners, is imperative to the nation’s economic recovery. We look forward to continue working with Congress on the implementation of these new changes, and hope to support struggling homeowners in upcoming packages,” said Noerena Limón, NAHREP SVP Public Policy and Industry Relations.
