NAHREP Joins Coalition in Support of the Housing Supply and Innovation Framework Act
NAHREP has joined a coalition of organizations to support the Housing Supply and Innovation Frameworks Act. The bill, introduced by Rep. Mike Flood (R-NE) and Rep. Lisa Blount Rochester (D-DE), is a bipartisan piece of legislation designed to address barriers to housing development and construction. If passed, the bill would require the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to develop a framework for state and local housing reform, including best practices for zoning and land-use reform. HUD representatives would collaborate with industry experts, academics, planners, and community advocates to build the framework, which would serve as a resource to states and localities. The bill would also abolish the Regulatory Barriers Clearinghouse, which is widely understood to be inefficient, so that the resources previously allocated for the Clearinghouse could be redirected to fund framework development.
Given the current shortage, it is imperative that we utilize all available resources and methods to increase housing supply. The Housing Supply and Innovation Frameworks Act is a unique and valuable approach to catalyzing new housing development in communities across the country.
