NAHREP Statement on Selection of Attorney General Xavier Becerra as Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) Department
The National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals (NAHREP) congratulates president-elect Biden for his selection of Xavier Becerra to lead the Health and Human Services (HHS) Department at this critical juncture of our nation’s history.
A highly qualified and dedicated public servant of the highest caliber and experience, California Attorney General Becerra is well suited to lead HHS and the agency’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. As Latinos have been disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, it will be imperative that someone who understands communities of color is at the helm of the agency leading these response efforts.
Attorney General Becerra served 12 terms in Congress including as Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Vice Chairman of the Democratic Caucus and as a critical voice in the powerful Ways and Means Committee.
“I can personally attest to Attorney General Xavier Becerra’s deep commitment to the Hispanic community and to the future of our country. I have known him and Carolina, his gracious and talented medical doctor wife, for over 15 years. He has been a longtime friend of NAHREP’s and understands the wealth building promise of homeownership by fighting for working families throughout his career. He is a strong proponent for quality health care and greater economic opportunity for all Americans, including DACA Dreamers. NAHREP looks forward to working with Xavier Becerra in this new capacity as Secretary for Health and Human Services (HUD) and welcomes opportunities for collaboration,” said Gary Acosta NAHREP Co-Founder & CEO.
