NAC Blog: The 2-minute Latino homeownership narrative

I have a challenge for all of you: Let’s show the country how powerful our network actually is. We put a lot of work into our State of Hispanic Homeownership Report. It’s how we measure progress, how we get the country to see the power of investing in the Latino community, and it is also the way we change the narrative about Latinos in the U.S. Latinos are the engine behind the housing market and therefore, behind the U.S. economy. It is time more people realized that.

NAC Blog: Passing a bill in a divided Congress

First of all, a major shout-out to everyone who participated in NAHREP’s 2021 Capitol Hill Visits over the past two weeks. In total, NAHREP did 42 meetings and 202 of you participated in at least one meeting. Major kudos to our chapter leaders from around the country and our Government Affairs Directors. From Illinois to Texas, California to Florida, we traveled the country virtually, passionately advocating on behalf of our mission. But it doesn’t end there!

NAC Blog: Housing is Infrastructure

So, have you heard? 70% of all new homeowners over the next 20 years will be Latino. That’s a pretty big deal. NAC Blog: DREAMers are our family. What are you gonna do about it?

Familia. We talk about this word a lot at NAHREP. It’s the powerful center of our lives, the reason we work hard, the reason we breathe. I have a huge extended family, most of which live in the Inland Empire in California. We’re all up on each other’s business all the time. You know how it goes, they loooooove the chisme. But if anyone in the family needs anything, ANYTHING, they’re there before they’re asked to help out. It’s beautiful. If something happens to one person, it’s felt by everyone. It’s family.

NAC Blog: Yes In My Back Yard, turning thoughts into action

In the business of “change making” or advocacy, we seldom ever do anything alone. We need partners. The first step in laying out a strategy is to figure out who our friends are and who will join us in battle. As housing inventory continues to be the number one barrier to advancing sustainable Hispanic homeownership, the situation in California is probably the most severe. But at the same time, the advocacy community around addressing the housing inventory shortage and spurring housing production is also the most organized. One of the leading voices on housing inventory in the state of California is our friend Brian Hanlon, the President & CEO of the Yes In My Back Yard (YIMBY) initiative.

NAC Blog: Who will be the first Latino President?

Last year, our CEO Gary Acosta and the NAHREP National Board of Directors set a number of audacious goals for our organization that pertain to the broader Latino community: Guide the Latino community to be among the wealthiest and most philanthropic in the nation; Build NAHREP to be the largest and most effective economic mobility organization in America; Incubate 1,000 new Hispanic millionaires and five new Hispanic billionaires; Help Latinos dominate the Fortune 500 boardrooms and C-Suites; Help elect the first Latino President of the United States of America. At the National Advocacy Committee, our work is directly tied to helping build NAHREP into the largest and most effective economic mobility organization in America.
